Abuja, FCT

In 2026, severe flooding has impacted numerous communities across Nigeria, affecting 673,350 individuals in 134 Local Government Areas (LGAs) as of October 20. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reported that the floods have resulted in the deaths of 245 people and displaced 214,997 residents. The situation has prompted NEMA to convene the National Emergency Coordination Forum in Abuja to enhance emergency response efforts and prepare for the anticipated El Niño phenomenon expected in the upcoming seasons.
The flooding has been widespread, affecting 28 states in total. NEMA's dashboard indicates that the agency is actively working to strengthen inter-agency coordination and improve preparedness measures. The agency has highlighted the urgent need for stakeholders from various ministries, departments, and security institutions to collaborate effectively in addressing the ongoing crisis. As the situation develops, NEMA continues to monitor the impact of the floods and coordinate relief efforts for those affected.
